Why I love Singapore

People often ask me - why do I want to return to Singapore to continue my research career? That is, other than the fact that I am bonded - I truly want to come back home. They point out to the better scientific opportunities in the USA, which is true without a doubt. The USA is the best place to do Science right now, and will be so for many more years to come. So what is the reason?

Today's Straits Times gave me 2 good reasons. Strong family ties and a commitment to nature and the environment. The majority of Singaporeans value strong family ties. Most of my friends are very close to their family, and always speak very fondly of them. This is not really the case in the USA where individualism is promoted. And then, there is a report of expanding the Southern ridges. This is in addition to the extensive nature trail system. Also, there is much attention to building roof-top gardens, green buildings, clean water, and renewable energy research. Basically, all the things I am excited and passionate about, and I really hope to contribute in the years to come.

I am happy and proud of the direction my country is going, so it seems an obvious choice to return home =)
